ANNEXATION

SB 289, the annexation bill, sponsored by Senator Bob Cupp will be up for a Proponent Hearing on Wednesday, May 3rd. The Senate State and Local Government and Veteran’s Affairs Committee, chaired by Senator Richard Schafrath, usually meets on Wednesday afternoons at 4:30 p.m. in the Senate South Hearing Room. Wednesday, May 10th, has been tentatively scheduled for Opponent testimony. As a more definitive schedule becomes available, we will notify municipal officials.

If you do not yet have a copy of the bill you can contact the League’s office at 614/221-4349 and we will provide you a copy. If you have Internet capability, you may also obtain a copy from the General Assembly’s website at

It is expected that OTA and township officials will appear as proponents at a May 3rd hearing. Most likely the County Commissioners will appear also. The tentatively scheduled May 10th hearing for opponents may attract a number of non-municipal as well as municipal witnesses. The Ohio Home Builders Association in addition to central Ohio homebuilders and developers have expressed concerns with SB 289 as introduced and may have suggested changes to offer. Plan on a lengthy hearing.

As soon as possible we suggest you:

1) Contact members of the Senate State and Local Government and Veterans Affairs Committee expressing your objections. Members are as follows:
