Ohio Senate Continues Hearings on Budget.

The Ohio Senate continued to hear from state agencies about their budget requests. Much of the testimony only differed in how many dollars each agency would like the Senate to restore from House budget cuts.

It was clear that the Senate will be looking for additional dollars for primary and secondary education as its budget deliberations move forward. Whether those new dollars come from additional new revenues or at the expense of other line items, such as local government funds, is anyone’s guess at this point.

House Committee Votes Out Anti-residency Bill.

HB 114, the bill that attempts to overturn residency requirements voted on by the people through at least 125 charters throughout Ohio, was voted out of the House State Government Committee by a 14-2 tally. The bill would, if successful, also overturn ordinances, civil service rules and collective bargaining provisions related to employee residency requirements throughout the state.

The bill is now in the House Rules Committee, which could schedule a vote of the full House on the measure as early as next week. Now is the time to reiterate your strong opposition to this unconstitutional legislation.
